Advantage celebrates 40 years of loyalty

FORT Worth, TEXAS – When American Airlines launched the AAdvantage loyalty program in 1981, it was one of the airline’s first frequent airline plans to reward members for their travel. Forty years later, AAdvantage continues to lead the way with new partnerships, providing members with more personalized options in a system that is not easy for members to use.

“AAdvantage continues to be the easiest airline loyalty program for customers to engage with,” said Rick Elieson, President of the AAdvantage program. “Throughout our first 40 years, it has been an opportunity to reward members for their continued commitment to the United States with successful opportunities, unique partnerships and a development program that builds for every customer.”

The program provides members with more flexibility over the past year by eliminating gift ticket exchange charges and automatically expanding status by January 31, 2022. AAdvantage also gives members an initial three months on accepting popular status as an additional way to get the most out of benefits using AAdvantage branded credit cards.

For the rest of 2021, AAdvantage members can look forward to enhanced flight opportunities with our new partnerships with JetBlue Airways and Alaska Airlines. Members can also expect new ways to get miles with new homes, workouts and business partnerships.
