Ballast Point Brewing Co. Launches Diversity Fellowship with UC San Diego Expansion

Ballast Point recently announced the launch of the first annual Brewing for Diversity scholarship initiative in partnership with the UC San Diego Extension Brewing program. The Ballast Point Brewing for Diversity scholarship aims to promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the brewing community by providing educational opportunities and future professional employment opportunities. The scholarship provides underrepresented students with the resources and tools they need to successfully participate in the UC San Diego Extension Brewing Certificate program. According to the Brewers Association, recent race and ethnicity data on U.S. brewery workers makes an overwhelming proportion of white for production workers (76.2%) and brewers (89%). Ballast Point recognized the need for fairer representation and set out to develop a partnership initiative that will focus on promoting a more unified community and empowered through a deeper understanding and understanding of inclusivity and equality. The Brewing for Diversity Scholarship provides all of the tuition and related fees for a student who begins or continues the Brewing Certificate program each year. Each recipient also has the opportunity to do an internship at Ballast Point (Miramar, Little Italy) in San Diego to gain an insight into the brewery’s production and operation, and to equip themselves with the skills and knowledge necessary to become familiar with Enter the industry in a professional manner.
