OFFICIAL: Olivier Giroud joins AC Milan from Chelsea
The French striker has signed a contract with AC Milan.
AC Milan are delighted to announce that they have acquired outright the sporting performances of footballer Olivier Jonathan Giroud from Chelsea FC. The French striker will wear the number 9 shirt.
Born in Chambéry (France) on 30 September 1986, Giroud grew up in the Grenoble Youth Sector with which he made his debut in the First Team in 2005. After wearing the jerseys of Istres and Tours, the call of Montpellier arrives in Ligue 1 with which he collects 85 appearances and 39 goals in two years, winning the Championship in the 2011/2012 season.
In the summer of 2012, he moved to Arsenal with which he scored 105 goals in 253 games and won 3 FA Cups and 3 Community Shields. In January 2018 he moved to Chelsea, with which he collected 119 appearances and 39 goals, winning 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, and 1 FA Cup.
He made his debut in the national team in November 2011, collecting 110 appearances, 46 goals, and winning the World Cup in 2018.
Juventus ‘lining up a move for Haaland as Ronaldo’s replacement next summer’
Juventus have reportedly registered an interest in signing Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian forward – who scored 41 goals in 41 games for Dortmund last season – has become one of the most sought after strikers in Europe, gaining the attention of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City this summer.
However, Serie A giants Juventus are preparing to make a move for Haaland in 2022, when the striker will be available for a discounted price.
As it stands, Dortmund are demanding at least £150million to let Haaland go this summer. Whereas next year the striker will be available for just £65m, once a clause in his contract is activated.
Therefore, according to La Reppublica, Juventus have identified Haaland as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo – who is out of contract next summer.
However, Juve could miss out on the 20-year-old’s signature if Chelsea are able to push a deal over the line this summer
Chelsea’s interest in signing Haaland dates back to March, when Sportsmail revealed that the Blues, Real Madrid and Manchester City were the three main clubs interested in the young forward.
When the season ended at the end of May and beginning of June, the Blues then opened talks with Dortmund over Haaland’s availability, with Chelsea hearing that they could end up paying as much as £170m for him.
Earlier this week, reports in Germany claimed that Roman Abramovich had freed up the funds for the Blues to go and get Haaland for £150m, though they would need to include one of Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham as part of the deal.
Juventus could, however, block a deal from going through as the club reportedly have a good relationship with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola.
Raiola helped Juve sign former Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt in 2019 despite growing interest from the Barcelona camp at the time.
In addition, when quizzed on the situation with Haaland, Juve’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Sky Germany: ‘There is nothing new on this matter. He is in our plans. Erling will return this week and he will be very hungry.
‘He wants to play football, he feels comfortable with us and he will be eager to score many goals.’
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is yet to confirm his plans for the future. According La Gazzetta dello Sport Ronaldo will most likely to leave Juventus for free next summer with no terms agreed for an extension.
The 36-year-old has been linked with a sensational return to either Real Madrid or Manchester United over the past year.
Nevertheless, Juventus are expected to push for a new deal over the next 12 months regardless of their stance with Haaland.
Arsenal fans fear Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has lost his scoring touch
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had an afternoon to forget after missing a hat trick of sitters as Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Rangers in a pre-season friendly.
The Gunners have been in Scotland to step up preparations for the 2021-22 campaign, with Mikel Arteta hoping for a more positive showing after finishing in a lowly eighth place last season.
Arteta will be hoping to get a tune out of his 32-year-old talisman, who endured a below par season by his standards, but the striker did not have his shooting boots on at Ibrox on Saturday.
Aubameyang had an opportunity to score in the 9th minute but ballooned his shot over Alan McGregor’s crossbar after finding himself in good space to finish.
Moments later, Leon Balogun opened the scoring for Steven Gerrard’s side before new signing Nuno Tavares levelled the scores.
The former Dortmund star had another chance to score when the ball was sent into the penalty area from the right, but he failed to make good contact and his header was sent into the turf and wide of the target.
Then, just before half time, Aubameyang completed his hat trick of misses with the worst of the lot. Emile Smith-Rowe cut Rangers’ defence open and forced a save from McGregor, with the ball falling into the path of the striker.
Just yards out from goal, Aubameyang failed to put the ball either side of a Rangers man on the line and directed it straight at his opposing number who cleared behind for a corner in a horror miss.
And Arsenal fans have expressed concern that the miss could be indicative of a continuation of Aubameyang’s poor form from last season.
‘Auba carrying on from last season’s form. Worrying times ahead,’ one fan tweeted.
‘Aubameyang this is a hall of shame performance…’ another Gooner wrote online.
One fan tweeted: ‘Auba needs to sort it out with himself before the season starts.’
Arsenal are winless from their first two pre-season friendlies against Hibernian and Rangers, although Arteta will view these warm up games as opportunity to get minutes into his players’ legs ahead of a long campaign.
The Gunners have reportedly agreed a £50m fee with Brighton for Ben White, as the North Londoners look to shore up their leaky defence this summer.
