Short Description: A full scholarship is available to exceptionally qualified applicants who have been accepted to study at GRIPS. International students applying to the GRIPS Young Leaders Program can apply for a Japanese Government Grant (MEXT).
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis and only a limited number of grants are available. Candidates must be foreign students recommended by the Embassy / Consulate General of Japan, the University or the Government.

The College of Local Government focuses on improving local government and governance to address a variety of regional issues in areas such as education, health care, social welfare, and local development.
It accepts students from 20 countries: P. R. China, Representative. From Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania.
Grant Value / Inclusions: The grant award provides a monthly stipend of 242,000 yen per month (price in 2020, 2000; amount is subject to change) to cover living expenses such as food, clothing and other daily expenses, as well as accommodation, transportation, medical care, insurance and miscellaneous expenses related to the GRIPS study.
This grant is fixed and cannot be increased to cover family members. The scholarship also covers university applications, entrance fees and tuition fees.
Researchers will receive an economy class ticket from their home country to Japan when registering with GRIPS and an economy class flight ticket from Japan to their home country after completing their studies at GRIPS.
