Martin Odegaard makes big Real Madrid transfer decision amid Arsenal interest
The Norway international spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the Gunners and despite interest in re-signing the Real Madrid man, reports suggest he is set to stay

Martin Odegaard is ‘set to stay’ at Real Madrid this summer despite interest from Arsenal.
That’s according to The Athletic, who say that the 22-year-old playmaker is looking increasingly likely to remain in the Spanish capital.
It is understood that Odegaard is Mikel Arteta’s first-choice signing after an impressive loan spell in the second half of the 2020/21 season.
Arsenal have been chasing a creative midfield player since last summer, but the Norway international’s brief spell at the Emirates Stadium encouraged Arteta, but the chances of bringing him back for another stint are ‘considered slim’.
The Gunners may have to pursue other targets following Odegaard’s return to Spain, with the north London club also missing out on Emiliano Buendia – who signed for Aston Villa recently, despite a £30million offer from Arsenal.
Arteta’s side always felt their offer for Odegaard depended on his desire to leave the La Liga giants, but with a new manager in Carlo Ancelotti, it seems the former Arsenal loanee wants another chance in Madrid.
The report also claims that Los Blancos were reluctant to letting Odegaard leave on loan in January, but he is thought to have pushed for a move away due to lack of game time at the Alfredo Estadio Di Stefano.
The Norwegian has two years remaining on his current contract with the Madrid-based outfit, and it is claimed that talks over an extension are yet to take place.
Arteta was asked about the Norway captain back in May and whether the club would like to keep him on board and despite remaining coy, his answer seemed pretty obvious.
“We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do,” the Arsenal boss said.
“He’s not our player. We will have discussions in the next few weeks. And respect first of all because he’s a Real Madrid player, and we will have those communications.
“We’ve tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he has done.
And he’s adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. And hopefully we have given him as well the hope and the feeling that it could be a good place for him.”
Then, Arteta was asked if he was confident of keeping Odegaard for at least one more season, and replied: “I don’t know. It’s not in our hands so I don’t know.”
