International travelers entering Canada by air or by land must now register their travel and contact information with the ArriveCAN app beforehand.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Canada has implemented a number of strict travel restrictions. One of these involved the creation of the ArriveCAN app, which is designed to allow incoming passengers to send their details to Canadian authorities for the purpose of monitoring and contact tracing.
Canada has increased its testing and quarantine requirements for new arrivals and has made it obligatory to submit a suitable quarantine plan with ArriveCAN.
What Details Do You Have to Provide on ArriveCAN?
International travelers are now required to register certain information with ArriveCAN prior to embarking on the journey to Canada. This includes the following:
Contact details
Information about travel plans
Booking reference for a 3-night reservation at a hotel approved by the government (air passengers only)
Contact details for the ArriveCAN app
The following information is required for each individual entering Canada:
Name
Date of birth
Email address
Phone number
Passport/travel document details
Travel information
The following details about the individual’s travel plans must also be provided via ArriveCAN:
Flight number
Airline
Point of entry to Canada
Purpose of travel
Providing a quarantine plan via ArriveCAN
The vast majority of travelers, with very few exceptions, must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Canada.
Passengers arriving by air must spend the first 3 days in a government-approved hotel.
All passengers must outline their plan for where they will quarantine on the ArriveCAN app and answer a number of related questions.
This includes:
Address where the traveler will complete their 14-day quarantine
If they will have access to basic necessities without leaving the quarantine location
Whether they will be in contact with other people at the location
If they will be staying with people who are considered high-risk
Using ArriveCAN after arriving in Canada
Once a traveler has entered the country, ArriveCAN will send a notification to their device asking them to confirm that they have arrived.
The individual must click to send confirmation that they are now at the government-approved hotel or other approved quarantine location.
From this point on, it is necessary to complete a quick symptom report every day using the ArriveCAN app.
When Do You Have to Send the Information on ArriveCAN?
According to Canadian regulations, all individuals planning to enter Canada must submit certain information before traveling, including personal, travel, and quarantine details.
For passengers traveling by air, this means sending the required details via the app prior to boarding the flight.
Those traveling by land from the United States may provide the information at any time before crossing the Canadian border.
Upon arrival, the ArriveCAN app must be used to confirm the traveler’s arrival at the location where they will spend 14 days in quarantine.
Who Needs to Use ArriveCAN?
Each traveler entering Canada needs to be registered using the ArriveCAN app. Most individuals will need to submit their information themselves. This is simple to do by using the app on a mobile device.
Family groups traveling and quarantining together may provide their contact details together. The individual using ArriveCAN can provide the relevant information for themselves and for the following others in their party:
Spouse or partner
Children aged 18 and under
Any adult for whom they are a legal guardian
ArriveCAN and Increased Restrictions for Canada
Canada has increased its travel restrictions, with an emphasis on testing and tracking travelers entering the country.
The majority of foreign nationals are still prohibited from entering, with only Canadian nationals, permanent residents, and certain other exemptions being allowed into the country. Once they arrive, they must complete a mandatory quarantine period of 14 days. A plan for this quarantine must be submitted via ArriveCAN before arrival.
Travelers must also use the ArriveCAN app to submit their personal and travel details, as well as tracking their symptoms upon arrival.
