Permanent Residence in Canada – How to Get It

Do you want to have permanent residence in Canada? You’re not alone. More than 200,000 people become permanent residents in Canada each year. Most applicants want a permit to ultimately obtain citizenship and a Canadian passport. There are many different Canadian immigration programs that a person can apply for permanent Canada residence. Once an application has been submitted and approved, and a foreign citizen obtained their permanent resident visa in Canada, they can immigrate to Canada and have many of the same rights as Canadian citizens. Permanent residents of Canada have the right to health care, residency and employment in any Canadian province, protection under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and compliant with the requirements upon application for Canadian citizenship. In fact, the only difference between permanent Canada residency and a Canadian citizen is the right to hold public office, join the military, and vote. Becoming a permanent resident in Canada is a privilege that can be revoked if a person is convicted of a serious crime and is therefore deported.
