Grant value / closures / duration: The value of the Karen McKell International Leader of Tomorrow Award is commensurate with your financial needs.

Financial needs are determined by tuition fees, commissions, and housing costs, and are deducted from the financial compensation you and your family can provide each year. A standard needs assessment is based on financial information provided by you and your family.

Your award can be renewed for up to three additional years for an undergraduate or graduate degree, whichever comes first, provided you achieve a satisfactory academic status in your faculty, continue to demonstrate financial need, and retain a Canadian study permit (student visa).

Eligibility: To be considered for the Karen McKell International Leader of Tomorrow Award:

• You must be an international student studying in Canada with a Canadian study permit.

• You must attend UBC from a reputable high school or transfer from your first high school or other university.

• You must have completed high school no earlier than June two years before the academic year you are applying for. For example, applicants for 2022 must have graduated from high school before June 2020.

• You must apply for your first bachelor’s degree.

• You must demonstrate superior academic achievement (achieve all As or equivalent).

• You must demonstrate a financial need that would otherwise prevent you from taking the UBC degree.

• You must meet UBC’s entry requirements, including general and degree-specific requirements, as well as the English language entry standard.

Directions: To apply for an international researcher program, you must be nominated by a school or non-profit organization and provide a reference from an academic judge. Make sure your school or nonprofit can nominate you, and let the candidate and academic judge know you want to apply for an international research program.
