British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned on Sunday that stricter lockdown restrictions could likely be expected in England as the country switched from a new variant of the coronavirus that brought infection rates to the highest recorded levels. However, Johnson insisted that he had “no doubt” that schools are safe and urged parents to send their children back to classes in areas of England where they can. Unions representing teachers have urged schools to turn to distance learning for at least two more weeks, as the new variant is up to 70% more contagious, according to scientists.
